Day 10: "Your Kingdom Come"

Right now if you were asked “what do YOU need more than anything” what would you say? A new job? A new car? Maybe just to graduate college? All good answers, but let me ask you one more question: 'what does THE WORLD need more than anything?’ Better laws? A new president? You have many answers I am sure, but here is Jesus’s answer for what you & the world needs most of all: For God’s Kingdom to come & God’s will to be done on Earth!

Prayer like this reminds us that our greatest happiness on Earth will not come when our wills & all we want happens but rather when we are in God’s presence & God’s will is being obeyed perfectly. It is hard to pause here and pray this way because oftentimes there are many legitimate things we have to bring to God but when we pause here and pray this often we realize that what is URGENT isn’t always the most IMPORTANT.  There are many things we need and God wants to hear them (as we will see tomorrow) but Jesus knows we will be happiest when we pray “not my will be done but Your will be done.”

God’s kingdom is where God rules as King and in this King’s presence is fullness of life and joys forevermore. (Psalm 16:11) So today pray and ask God for what you need most: His kingdom and “do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matt. 6:31-33)

PRAYER: God I confess that oftentimes I think I know what is best for my life. I so often come into your presence with what is urgent but maybe not what is most important. I pray that you change my heart to desire you and your kingdom and help me to see that when I focus on these things you will supply all I need and I will be the happiest.
